Kelley Shepherd

I am single and currently reside in Congress, Arizona. In a 1895 Arizona State Historical hotel, with my mother, two dogs and a bass boat. My mother and I are currently restoring the old place and what an endeavor it has been! I enjoy the warm weather and desert landscape. Having lived in Colorado most of my life, I grew up fishing for small mouth bass and where catching a large mouth was a real kicker of a treat! So, you could say I went from the snow to the sunny glow where the beautiful saguaro laden cliff's meet up with many waterways and Big Bass....
I began fishing with my Grandparents who have long passed. God Bless them for sharing with me their love of the sport of bass fishing and all the four wheeling done through the remote red rock canyon country to get to the back waters of Utah's enormous Lake Powell.
I then set out a fishing women tournaments from Colorado to Lake Lewisville, Texas in October of 2005. In the BASS Women's Inaugural Tournament. It was a large turnout and I, by-golly was in third place after the first day and finished fourteenth overall. I met so many many incredible women angler's that shared the same passion for bass fishing as I did and I was hooked!! I continued to tour with them through the fall of 2009.
One of my most memorable moments in fishing was on California's Clear Lake. Where I qualified in a Regional US Anglers Choice Team tournament as the only women boater and caught two largemouth weighing over 10 lbs. each on the same day, un-fortunately it was during practice. But, what fun to lure and land those big one's!! And who could forget all the big fish fun at Lake Amistad, Texas?! I really remember fishing Lake Dardenelle in the summer of 2006. The temperature was high and several of the angler's suffered from heat exhaustion. It was hot!! I did manage my best tournament outcome though and we all had a police escort from Russellville to LittleRock. Where I got to cross the weigh-in-stage at the Verizon Dome to one of my favorite songs, "Fly Like An Eagle!" Hmmm....wow...thinking back overall the most priceless and meaningful moment for me, truly was when my Grandmother helped me tie on my first hook.
Overall my fishing experiences and adventures are many!! I can say that touring and seeing the many different fisheries across the US (18 states) has been the experience of a life time!!! In meeting and competing with like minded women angler's who come together and who's passion and love of the sport of Bass fishing, lives on in us forever.....
I see in all of us the opportunity to continue to be Women Ambassador's of the sport of bass fishing through the LBAA. It is alive and growing today by the spirit and fortitude of many!! The LBAA will instill and shape the future stewardship of women's competitive bass fishing through it's heartfelt knowledge of the past and perseverance for it's future.
By overcoming barriers or deterrent's with solutions, as witnessed on Kentucky Lake, Kentucky, when unsafe high water levels left us without tournament waters to fish. The LBAA and it's connections improvised, swung into action and did find a waterway to fish. The LBAA also, as witnessed on Lake Dardenelle Russellville, Arkansas graciously gave back support to the host community and embraced it's young anglers to come out and experience a day on the lake.
