|Texas Pro-Angler Kim Subia|
I have been fishing off and on all my life. It started with my dad and my great grandpa. My dad would take my brother, sister, and I fishing at Colorado City, Texas. We lived in west Texas so the only lake around was 150 miles away. We would also visit my great grandpa on the Texas coast where we would go crab fishing. These were all some fine memories.
I married my best friend in 1985. We took up saltwater fishing in our move to the coast of south Texas in 1989. A close friend with a passion for bass fishing introduced my husband and me to the sport in 2013. On an early adventure I caught a 9 pounder. I was hooked. We recently joined a bass club at Coleto Creek. I was blessed with four first place finishes, one second place and was awarded “Lady Angler of the Year” in 2015 and 2016.
I joined the LBAA and fished my first tournament at the 2015 Wild Card tournament at Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, Tennessee. I had a great time and met so many awesome ladies. They were so welcoming that I felt like I had known them for years.
I am ready for the 2019 season to fish with this awesome bass tour, the LBAA. My desire is to help other women get involved in fishing. I’d like more people to see that women can also be excellent anglers. I am starting to reach out to local churches to do fishing clinics to help people who want to fish but don’t know how. And, hopefully we can get kids hooked on fishing, not on drugs.
I am proud that I did a fishing show to raise awareness for breast and cervical cancer. I was able to show the audience that there are programs to support women in need. Not only did I bring awareness to these programs, I also brought awareness that women can fish too. I like to call it “Ladies of Pink Fish too.”
I was fortunate enough to be able to fish with these ladies as a co-angler for the 2015 and 2016 season as well as making it to the Lady Bass Classic in 2016. I was able to gain so much knowledge as well as a lot of courage from them. As a result, I am running my own boat.
