My name is Amanda Godfrey I am 23 years old and I started fishing when I was a toddler. I remember standing on the front of my dad’s boat with a diaper on, holding my Snoopy pole until dark catching brim. I would fish all day and not miss a minute. I fished my first tournament when I was 7 years old with my dad. From that point I knew that I was addicted. My dad is the one that got me into the sport and has always been my support. From the age of 11 to 15 I fished in a local junior club out of Asheville, NC. In 2008, while I was 14, I won for the year. After that, I got to compete in the FLW NC state Junior Championship where I won and then went on to compete in the FLW World Championship, where I placed 30th. I have been competing in local tournaments with my dad and other friends since then.

I grew up fishing on Lake Hartwell in SC. I was on the lake every weekend. While all of the family was riding jet skis and having fun I was more concerned about water temperature and what the fish were biting. I remember back when I was in 2nd grade we had to make a book about what we wanted to be when we grow up and I said I wanted to be a professional bass angler. I love getting the younger generation involved with fishing and showing them what the sport has to offer. I do a lot of seminars and shows to teach the youth about fishing and work for sponsors. In 2014 I fished one tournament with the LBAA and then went on to be a boater in 2015 where I placed 4th for the year, placed 2nd in the classic and won rookie of the year.

Every day I try to increase my knowledge on fishing by researching and just spending time on the water. I compete in a lot of different local tournaments and charity tournaments throughout North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. I can’t wait to spend many more years fishing and competing in tournaments. I hope to continue to help grow the sport of fishing for women and the youth.
