Louisiana Co-Angler Noella McLaurin |
My name is Noella McLaurin and I am a co-angler from Vivian, Louisiana. My husband Jeff and I have been married for 24 years and he has been my #1 fan and supporter! We have 3 sons, 1 daughter, 2 daughters-in-law, 1 son-in-law, 3 grandkids and 2 on the way! My family is where my heart is.
I graduated from LSU-Shreveport with a BA in Elementary Education. I stepped out of the classroom in 2013 not having a clue I would be fishing with this great group of ladies. I have loved every minute of it and, Lord willing, I'll be around for many years to come.
I started fishing in 1999 on a 25-acre pond in Grandview, TX when my husband (a now retired Marine) was stationed at the Joint Reserve Base in Forth Worth, TX. I would bass fish with my Zebco, bream fish with my cane pole and bottom fish for catfish, all at the same time! The only bass lure I knew about was an H & H double spinner in Chartreuse. Needless to say, I got hooked.
In 2000 we moved back to Louisiana and I met Penny McCurdy and C J Gilmore. They have had the biggest impact on my fishing career. The first time I fished with C J he handed me an open-face reel. I had two choices:1) Learn to fish with it or 2) sit back and watch. I sucked it up and on that day I learned how to pick out a bird's nest with the best of them! In 2012 Penny and I began fishing local tournament trails. Stiff competition with some of the best male anglers in our area. We qualified for the classics in every trail we fished in. An accomplishment I am very proud of. In 2013 I fished my first LBAA wildcard tournament on the Red River in Shreveport, LA. I finished in 3rd place. In 2014 I tied for 1st place on the Ouachita River in Monroe, LA. In 2015 I took 1st on Bull Shoals in AR and 2nd place in the Classic on Pickwick Lake in Alabama.
The biggest bass I've caught was on Caddo Lake and weighed in at 7lbs. I caught it on a wacky style Senko. I love fishing a soft plastic! Feeling that thump and watching that line swim, well, only someone who has experienced it really understands!
I truly love to fish but if there's one thing I've had to learn, it's that fishing is what I do, it's not who I am. When people walk away from me I hope the impression I leave is one of integrity and friendship not the number of fish I caught.
I want to thank my sponsors for their support! Couldn't do it without them:
Stanley Lures, Hale Lures, Quality Building in Queen City, TX and Elite Tungsten.
Above all I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for allowing me to participate in such a great sport. Nothing more, nothing less than Your perfect will be done in my life.....
