The Lady Bass Anglers Association will kick off our 10th Anniversary Season by traveling to Lousiana's beautiful Cane River Lake for the first regular season event for 2020. This will be the first time that that LBAA has fished the waters of Cane River Lake.
Cane River Lake is a 35 mi oxbow lake formed from a portion of the Red River in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, United States. It runs throughout the Natchitoches' historic district to the south and is famous for the numerous plantations, particularly Melrose being located on or near its banks. The lake on average is about 100 feet wide. It has an average depth of 8 feet and a maximum depth of 15 feet. The shoreline is dotted with boat docks and scattered cover including laydowns, lily pads and reeds. All along the lake you will see some of the old plantations.
Anglers need to remember that as we run the lake, boaters are responsible for their wake. It is important for anglers to know that there are no contour markings available on your depth finders. Hummingbird does show a blue rough outline, whereas Navionics shows nothing. In both cases, the boat ramps do appear on the units.
The lake is safe to run by staying in the middle while running. The northern end of the lake is shallower than the south end of the lake. There is a maximum speed limit of 45 miles per hour with section that are 40 miles per hour and several sections that are no wake zones.
There are three public boat ramps; Washington Street on the northern end; Shell Beach near the middle and a ramp at the southern dam. Shell Beach has the biggest parking area. Just be aware that parking is across the road from the ramp. For the LBAA event, the Washington street ramp will be utilized. We will have access to parking nearby. It is important to be diligent when parking and utilize the space wisely to maximize the number of boats who can park. We do have access to the neighboring parking lot for our event.
Take-off, check-in and weigh-in will take place at the amphitheater along the river front in downtown Natchitoches! There is ample space to tie up the boats along the river wall and portable floating docks.
This two day pro/am event will have pro-anglers competing to bring in the heaviest 5 fish limit comprised of any combination of largemouth, or spotted bass. Co-anglers are looking for the same species but only need 3 fish for a bag limit each day. The angler in each division with the largest combined two day weight will be awarded the top cash prize for her division. One angler in each division will also be awarded a prize for the biggest bass of the tournament. Cash payouts in each division will be paid to every 1 in 5 anglers registering for the tournament. Entry fees for pro-anglers is $400 and for co-anglers is $200. The last day to register without a late fee is February 10, 2020.
